Long time, the ping utility was authored by Mike Muuss in December 1983 as a tool to troubleshoot problems in an IP network. He named it after the sound that sonar makes, since its methodology is similar to sonar's echo location.

Wait.

oh, i wasn't going to comment, as imav is out for the day and we're still discussing this, but thanks for pointing out the announcement soarer.

yes, attachments are currently broken and we are discussing a way forward, as not all of it will come back, unfortunately. if you have content backed up, i highly encourage you to repopulate the media on the forum with your own backups.

unfortunately, this latest attack was targeted and highly malicious. in particular, imav has been through hell and back over the last 24 hours. however, i think the gh community is far too strong to let a few script kids ruin things for everyone. please carry on and imav will make an announcement when he's ready.
Oh wait, some of those pics were MINE!!!!! I DIDN'T DO IT I HAVE NO HTML SKILLZ!

Who is Mkawa here btw? Is it kbdfr?

BTW if you ARE a geekhacker I AM SERIOUS when I say to turn Javascript OFF!

This was left behind before in the OP attack and I got a nasty one myself despite running Microsoft Security Essentials (HEY, it's FREE!).
webwit wrote:There are currently two hidden malware iframes inserted in geekhack's html (at the bottom). The iframe source url keeps redirecting to itself though, and seems to be not functional/disabled. Although maybe that's the point, to target some browser bug or make visitors part of a ddos attack elsewhere.

You lose some of the advanced tools but if you a Geekhacker you aren't very advanced anyway.

Ask Vint Cerf and the Google Team.

If you are truly paranoid (or IP blocked like I am) go through a proxy and use these setting:

iMav has been to hell and back because of a malicious attack on his forum? That guy needs to get out more.

lol

You know I think the frankenstein GH server is leeching bandwidth off a Cisco substation somewhere in the boonies. You would think Cisco would do a better job of screening out hackers.

Could be an Inside Job.

Maybe Ashort is playing with the Geekhack Community?

That, or if his server wasn't 6 hours away, Hell wouldn't take so long to get to.

I have a job where I am very busy and occupies a lot of my time. You know what I don't do? Shit that also occupies a lot of my time, especially when it interferes with my livelihood.

Thanks for the warning. NIS2012 isn't giving me any alerts and I think NIS is pretty good, until proven otherwise. Here is some Micro$oft JS/Alescurf.C info, looks like a redirect, so a POTENTIAL danger as the Security Essentials warning states. Not sure I'm all that worried, Norton Safe Web says geekhack is OK.

You know, the PICTURE threads at Geekhack look a little sparse these days.

I especially miss Microsoft Windows PortaPotty thread.

This is why Imgur is so good.

You expect me to click that?

And Webwit and Sixty, I will no longer complain about Geekhack images being blocked and will now upload to Imgur my local copies.

Putting the HACK back in Geekhack.

What is funny is I expect the name was Xsphat's idea. You see he, Webwit, ItlnStln, Laurie, Bhtooefr, Chloe were all part of the original crowd and Xsphat was a WRITER, aka HACK.

Man that dude is shaggy these days.

Just avoid the index and you'll be OK for now. For example, go to your control panel instead:

http://geekhack.org/usercp.php

...or any of the forums:

http://geekhack.org/forumdisplay.php?30 ... -community

...or the spy:

http://geekhack.org/vaispy.php

iMav is evaluating our options at this point.
