EUROPE ROUND 1 CLOSED
Hi everybody,
With this thread I am trying to see how many people would be interested in receiving the so called Switch Try Bag -> it is a little bag containing all major cherry and alps switches. It is a variant of the Switch Try Board : http://www.mrinterface.com/content/sink ... -try-board in the sense that I don't solder them to a piece of PCB ( which is easier for me ).
The process I use to spread them around is called open sink : http://www.opensink.com -> you receive the bag , check it's keys out , write a short review on this forum and ship it to the next in line.
I already have 3 sinklist items running successfully like this and it costs me a lot of time to administrate them( checking everything and guiding the process ) on GeekHack and I figured I want to spread this fourth sinklist item via deskthority in order to get more exposure for deskthority as well.
What do you guys think? If you are interested in participating please PM me your name and country including your email where I can contact you directly.

NEW!NEW!NEW!NEW!NEW!NEW!NEW!NEW!NEW!NEW!NEW!
Today 17 October 2011 I released the first continental switch try bag.
The EUROPEAN switch try bag :
It contains the following switches :
1. Cherry Brown
2. Cherry Blue
3. Cherry Red
4. Cherry Clear
5. Cherry Black
6. Clicky Alps grey
7. Dampened Alps white
8. Alps black
9. Cherry ML
This bag will stay in Europe indefinitely. This bag will also be tracked differently ( I will use the same process as Ceesa : decentralized )
You receive the bag, you write your opinion about the switches in this thread, you find out who is next on the list, you PM that person in order to get his/her address, you send it to the next one within 3 days(Notice : 3(!)) WITH tracking.
Note : if you are NOT able to send it on within 3 days OR you are unable to pay for the tracking then DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS SINKLIST. I learned my lessons with other sinklist items and would not like to learn them again.....
If you live in Europe(!) and you would like to participate PM me your name and I'll put you on the list.
Note : the other bag ( currently on its way to Australia ) will be re-baptized as the American/Canadian Switch try bag once the Aussie tour is complete. Americans and Canadians can already apply for it starting today ( 17 October 2011 ) PM me your name and I'll put you on the newly formed Switch Try Bag list for America/Canada.
Regards.

Some publicity to the Switch try keyboard would be also nice. There are already 4 members on that list and needs one more to send it out.

Yes, on the Switch Try Keyboard I modded one of the blacks to a cherry red.RiGS wrote:Some publicity to the Switch try keyboard would be also nice. There are already 4 members on that list and needs one more to send it out.

Between the TK, STN and STK there is no surprise for the lack of people interested in the STBAG. The current three sinklist provide enough for the average joe.Mrinterface wrote:Somehow I saturated the Switch Try Market.....Upto now there is only 1 on the list
I'm still curious on the alps and ML!

I like ML switches. Got the STN today and need to try the other switches. Love the Switch Try projects though. Too much supply in this regard isn't necessarily a bad thing. Means everyone that wants to is getting to try it.

The STN is circulating fine this way, I might have it back sooner than I think.

This is really brilliant idea.
Is it a kind of doubleblind ? Good. Good. Good.
There is a invincible local beliefs that old black Cherry switch is superior. To my knowledge, it is just kind of ignorance. If you feel smoother, it is wear. Nothing else. Moreover, nobody have clearly distinguished between old Cherry and new Cherry. Stupido.

Yaaay! Finally a fellow skeptic!!
Killing rumors that "Older is Better" is harder in Keyboard Forums filled with collectors is harder than Killing Bill.

So worn Cherries get smoother, and worn Alps get more friction. Right?

Except its "worn and DIRTY" Alps because of the poor design of the sliders and a slider hole bigger than....
Well, let's just say it's big.

Is it because the vintage springs are different in the old mx blacks?sixty wrote:It has nothing to do with worn out. I have old ones NIB. Entirely different feel to the new ones. Worst is the sound on new ones though.
Have you tried to put the old sprins in a new mx black switch?

All I can say is that I have never had the problem I read that others do with Cherry blacks,
That said all of mine are older NIB ones.
The only newer black switched one I have used a new'ish board of someone elses and did not like it so much but IMO I thought that was more down to the state of the board, and poss key cap feel.
Might have to look into it more.

Very interesting idea.
I tried a few months back purchasing a few of each kind of switch. All I could find was Cherry Blues, Blacks, and Clears from Digi-Key.
Where did you purchase all the various switches?
