There are lots of choices. HHKB, Siig minitouch, if you want to try something besides MX. Many MX mini boards, Poker, Pure, Race, Keycool 84, Choc mini, etc...
I think you should just spend 15 minutes with a really bad rubber domes to give you a reminder of how good MX can feel.
I suppose you could always go down the path of switch customizing too, with aftermarket alternate weight springs, lubing, stickering and all of that. Some really say it makes a noticeable difference, but I have been too lazy to try it.
If you're looking for a different MX, maybe give whites a try? I got some in to test out and am pretty sure I will be going ahead and ordering more to do a full board now. They really are like a better blue, good tactility without so much clicking noise, but a little too stiff for me. I probably would put in lighter springs myself.
