@rzwv — is there a part number for that MX orange switch? I presume it will be MX1A-?#?? where # will be 2 or greater for both the MX Orange (some unknown mount) and the Z mount (Alps-compatible) ones that we see more often.

Does anyone know what those switches were for, anyway?

Hopefully this isn't completely the wrong place to ask — basically, Sandy had a lot of Alps info on his website, and it's not machine translatable (I get a load of complete nonsense). It looks like he's since erased the switch pages, but here's an archive one of them: http://web.archive.org/web/200904290739 ... s_sw2.html

The information on those pages might clear up some of the confusion surrounding the "clone" switches, and all the translated information could go onto the DT wiki.

Daniel, I saw your request only recently, and decided to give it a go. It will be useful as a historical reference if nothing else.

However, I know nothing about Alps switches (the proper terminology for their parts, etc), so it needs proofreading and further editing by a native speaker and expert like you. MHTML.7z attached.

A very interesting read. A really fine job with the translation — I would have got none of that from Google Translate.

Not all of it is true. For example, Sandy claimed that Focus used switches from Forward, yet I've seen no evidence of that at all — they used genuine Alps originally, and ended up using entirely "Type II" (which are a mess — Xiang Min and Hua-Jie switches are very strongly interrelated, and they're available with Hua-Jie part numbers from various other brands with no websites; still no comment from either company as to what this is all about.) (Somewhere along the way, Focus toyed with later-generation (slimmer) Omrons and counterfeit Alps.)

This is likely to be the sort of reason why the page was pulled down. However, a lot of fascinating information was lost in the process.

I'll have to mention this translation to Sandy and see what he thinks.

Assuming that you already checked OMRON pages, you don't prefer OMRON terminology in English? Operating Force, for example.

Great, those definitions are really clear. That is, the Japanese definitions; the term "operating force" alone is meaningless as it can be used to refer to force at actuation or force at total travel (it depends on the manufacturer).

Basically: I have B3G-S100N and it's medium weight and tactile, and that seems to contradict the catalogue where only B3G-S400 is a "with feel" type. B3G-S400 has OF = TTF, and that by definition makes it tactile (with linear or progressive rate, you could not have the same force at more than one point on the graph). It's possible that my switches are not B3G-S100N, as I have no actual proof of the model (no photo of any original packaging) and maybe S100 and S400 were both the same colour.
