I've never really spent enough time on anything so it could be called a hobby, the only thing that comes close is woodworking and repairing bikes as a kid. I don't even call this/keyboards a hobby yet as all I've done so far is read the forum pretty much...

Now this is interesting. Thought I belonged to a minority, but my group seems to be the second most popular one! At my workplace we sometimes talk about "the right side of 25", and that's where I am, but I'm also currently on the wrong side of 20 (currently 19).
More than half of the keyboards I have are older than me. Don't know if this means I'm young or that the keyboards are old. Depends on who you're asking, I guess. It's still a bit frightening in a way. :>

Well, I learned to type on my mum's old 1960s typewriter, but computer keyboards older than me are mostly random ass linear…

But almost all my keyboards are older than Ne0phyte!

Interesting there's as many people here who didn't grow up during the 1980s. I always assumed a fondness for classic hardware and retro gaming etc. formed by being there.

But no, many of you have only lived through the bad times. (For keyboards. Great times for most everything else!) Which is good news for the future of this stuff.

I have five USB-attachable (with replacement controllers or, in one case, a converter) keyboards that are older than I am.

• A 7361073 beam spring made in 1979 with xwhatsit's controller
• A 6110345 Model F aircraft carrier made in 1984 with Soarer's converter
• An Apple //c original revision keyboard from 1984 (it's horrible, but it's the first keyboard I used, so I'm keeping it) - could adapt with Option8's Teensy-based controller (but won't, it's horrible)
• An Apple //e clone keyboard from 1985ish (meh, linears) - could adapt with a different Option8 controller (but won't because linears and it's too busy being in the //e)
• An Apple //c memory expansion keyboard from 1986ish (could be as late as September 1988, though, I haven't checked the date code (it's in a machine from early 1986, but the machine is the earlier pre-Memory Expansion machine, so it's a replacement), meaning that it may not be older than me) - it's too busy being in my //c to adapt to USB

And I've got an Apple ][+ keyboard from 1981, with no controller. (Waiting on a custom modified controller to adapt it to an Apple-1 clone.)

For the sake of full, excessive completeness, got an IBM Correcting Selectric II from (IIRC) about 1976, IIRC. And a Torpedo Model 18b from 1962.

I recall seeing an October date code on the tag attached to the cable. Don't have the cable with me, though, it's in storage.
