All your clean and sterile desks just gave me motivation to clean my desk
Will take a photo before and after
Edit:
Here's the before picture (sry for the bad quality)

This has probably been asked before, but what is the rationale behind the landscape/portrait setup as opposed to the landscape/landscape one?bjonbjonbjon wrote:
Updated some stuff since the last post, new aeron chair, swapped my blackwidow for kbt pure and changed my second monitor into portrait.
EDIT: Colour me silly, but all I had to do was read Vierax's comment above yours. I apologise for the newfound irrelevance of this post.

Let me answer that as I use a landscape/portrait setup at work: Its great for programming because you see more lines of code per page and also for reading long documents, for chats and so on.Miasma wrote: This has probably been asked before, but what is the rationale behind the landscape/portrait setup as opposed to the landscape/landscape one?

That's what I imagined. Do you feel it's worth, a) a second monitor for that purpose, and b) the loss in width vs. gain in height?ne0phyte wrote:Let me answer that as I use a landscape/portrait setup at work: Its great for programming because you see more lines of code per page and also for reading long documents, for chats and so on.Miasma wrote: This has probably been asked before, but what is the rationale behind the landscape/portrait setup as opposed to the landscape/landscape one?

I also use a portrait+landscape setup(see page 10 in this thread) and while it's really comfortable for some uses (as ne0phyte already pointed out), I wouldn't buy a second screen just for the sake of it.
If you can get one cheap go for it, otherwise you could flip your own screen to portrait mode and test it for a day.
Some websites get "distorted" which is really annoying if it's a website you visit regularly.

Ah, yes, he of the awesome painted keyboard. I actually read the Reddit thread on that; I'm seriously impressed!plasticchair wrote:I also use a portrait+landscape setup(see page 10 in this thread) and while it's really comfortable for some uses (as ne0phyte already pointed out), I wouldn't buy a second screen just for the sake of it.

I'm in the market for a new monitor, so I've been thinking about configurations. That said, my current one is so old, it's still 4:3, so in the end, I'd probably be back to having a single monitor after I give this one away!

I used to have the portrait + landscape setup, back in the day when I used to code in VIM Today its mostly Eclipse so I stick to dual landscape, but occasionally I flip one when reading long pdfs or other documents. If you are going for portrait i recommend the bigger resolution 1920x1200 instead of the 1080p that you now get on almost every single monitor out there >.< If you don't use portrait mode you should still get it bc its awesome

Unless you're giving it away to someone who doesn't have a monitor I'd keep it, they're great even though the quality isn't the best.Miasma wrote:I'm in the market for a new monitor, so I've been thinking about configurations. Yes, due to lack of money I'm still using 5:4 (1280x1024) Monitors, but with a dual screen layout as well. One 17" and one 19". When the 17" showed signs of breaking I was really sad, but in the end it was just a single internal flat cable which was loose…

Try a 30" TFT with QWXGA resolution. I recently got the Crossover 3020mdp off of ebay (from South Korea), and I am quite happy with it. I was thinking about getting one of those Dell 27" or 30", but those Korea monitors seem to be quite good.
I can recommend this seller:

While I was taking a picture for the mouse pad thread, thought I mareswell take a picture of my desk to post here too.
I have since laser cut a new version of my laptop riser, which is featured in the above photo.
You can see a wider shot that includes my 'Makers desk' here, but its a little out of date.I have since laser cut a new version of my laptop riser, which is featured in the above photo.

Though I did blend it into a grey background, as I find white too abrasive as a desktop colour.

As for the clock, well, I have a small obsession, only got the three in my studio though.

Why is the armrest of your chair upside-down?
If you don't use it, why not just take it off completely?
