Hey there!

I've got a G80-1165 and was wondering about some things.

My questions:
Does anybody know what was the use for this thing? It _seems_ to have an integrated card reader.
I was wondering what the overlay for the blank keys looked like. Does anybody has a photo of that part?
The enter key is stabilised by a cherry mx black; but it has no spring mechanism inside it. Is that common? It is new to me, but this is also the first time I have seen this style of enter key.

Thanks for reading!

PS: I'll document the keyboard for the wiki. Right now I'm in the process of cleaning it. Unfortnately a mouse build a nest into it some time ago.

Wow :o Never seen this one! What switches do the overlay buttons use? Rubber domes?

There is no escape...

Yeah, it is a real head scratcher to me. The keyboard is all mx blacks (+gray for the space bar), the overlay thingy has this funny tall caps:

It looks like the top left branding says Incomm™, but I'm not sure. The company was founded in 1992 and I feel like that's a bit too new. But it does match up with the board having a card reader, so.

Where is the card reader located? The top?

I think it is incomm, since that's what the lcd says when powering up. Most ICs seem to be from 1989 if I'm getting that correctly. I just tried to put it in the wiki but it seems to have problems right now :(
The card reader is to the side, on a seperate PCB.

That's probably the strangest keyboard I ever saw, with Control, Alt, and Backspace up where the missing function keys would go, the mystery pad, and the XT-size full length spacebar.

The divot over the mystery pad looks like it might have been intended for a trackball, but there aren't any trackball bits in it.

Don't forget to post some pictures of the inside when you get it apart!

I already took the pictures & I'm ready to put them in the wiki once it is fixed. Some curiosities are some factory bodge wires, scratched traces and an ominous "REV 00" marking on the pcb. Oh, and the keyboard has a strange port at one side that seem to connect to.. nothing?

I'm assuming this is for easier swapping of the legend sheet that is meant to go over those buttons
