I just discovered that HobbyTronics http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/ have started stocking the Teensy 2++ (24 GBP) and Teensy 3 (19.80 GBP). I've ordered one of each; I reckon that if I port one of the firmwares that are out there I'll end up with a stack of spare computrons and pins for extra macrology and such and driving silly stuff like the blinkenlights I'm planning on adding to the unused plate holes of my Maltronstein.
Fun times.

What's postage like? I get my Teensy 2s at Floris.cc in the Netherlands for €17 (used to be 14 earlier this year) each and 5 for shipping the order here.
Edit: oh, I see it on the front page! Good stuff. These guys could be promising.

I've used 'em before for other stuff. Possibly not the cheapest, but service is good and fast (if stuff's in stock) and the boxes they ship in are surprisingly handy. I've not yet taken knife to them to cut out a keypad, but it can only be a matter of time.

Only if you get the one with spiky legs…
More pins are essential for large matrices, and for adding status LEDs to the controller. My tiny little 60% needed 20 pins (15 columns + 5 rows + 0 LEDs) which is getting close to the limit of a Teensy 2. I have a 16x8 Tipro I'm going to hand wire next, and it would max out a Teensy 2 completely with zero LEDs. Besides, I'm also thinking of a full 128 LED matrix…

If I hadn't rewired my Maltron's matrix, I'd've ended up with a 19x6 matrix + 3LEDs which definitely required the ++. Having 4 times the ram, flash and EEPROM available certainly don't hurt either.

Indeed. I'm tempted to try a full LED matrix as well as the switches sometime for a completely custom 100% backlit keyboard. But in the meantime, my Teensy++ is waiting to go into the Tipro for basic NKRO duties. Convenient reprogrammability at last!
