F104+SSK+122+62+77+50+Ergo orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards

The Brand New Model F orders continue coming in - we just crossed the $40,000 mark in orders today! Very impressive for the first week! I was expecting about $100,000 based on current order interest over the entire 5 month period so this is a good start to the project.

Interesting t!ng! I also noticed another German language tech site article:

Any news about the PayPal issue? I'm a little hesitant to order because of this.

Indeed, i don't want to pay that invoice until this is sorted.

Thirded. I'd also like an update on the PayPal situation, although it may not be too serious if his account is still accepting payments.

Either way, I shall remain steadfast in my faith in Ellipse.

nuum, andrew, and gnarl I am confident PayPal will take care of this issue. I have provided a written explanation and have escalated the issue to their Executive Escalations team. They have not made any decision yet - from what I've read recently this seems like a routine procedure when there is a sudden increase in volume. Feel free to email executiveoffice@paypal.com in support of the project and of releasing the funds if you'd like.

I may start considering another payment processor if this issue is not resolved soon. It seems like all of them have similar issues though - any online payment processors people know of with few customer complaints?

In the mean time I am still receiving orders - recently we passed the $40,000 mark with orders! Who could have expected it would reach that much after the first week or so ?!?!

Thanks for the update. I'd contact 7bit for tips on collecting payments. He's been doing this for a while.

I'll be sure to email PayPal in support of the project.

I'd be curious to see an order breakdown to this point: F62 vs F77. Where is the love going?

Ellipse once told me that F62 was more popular than F77 when I asked him in the end of August.

Honestly, I'm undecided - I think I put F62 on the survey, but right now, my preference is leaning towards either my custom F62 layout (if enough people are interested in it to make it reasonably cheap to tool up), or F77. (It's not like this is going to be a light keyboard, so being small is less important.)

That's, of course, if other expenditures don't become a problem before the deadline...

I am torn in a few different ways. Can I spend, all told, ~$550 CAD on a keyboard? No, that's crazy. If I do say "to hell with reason!" then I don't know which one I want. The slim case is a nice idea, but the thick bezel is the defining feature of the Model F case, it would be a shame to scrap it. But the thick bezel adds width, not a big problem with the F62, but it makes the F77 wider than a TKL, which puts my mouse at a greater distance than I'd like. And I do like to have dedicated arrows keys and a few other extra keys. In short, I want a 75% Model F. Your custom layout is one solution, but I think I would still lean towards one of the standard offerings. I'm not a fan of horizontal row arrow keys.

Tuntematon - the order breakdown based on the 250+ keyboards' worth of order interest is about 150 F62, 100 F77.

49 F77s and 50 F62s have been paid for so far - about an even split!

And yes the ultra-compact case is definitely happening. The factory is on break for Chinese New Year for the next 2 weeks though so it will be delayed.

bhtooefr may I suggest ordering both versions :). Your layout preference may change a decade from now :)

Almost dead even, that's a good sign! Shows you weren't wrong to offer these two variants. The slim case is tempting, will it retain the scooped out bottom edge? I think it's important to keep as much of the original design as possible.

Well Tuntematon the ultra-compact cases require a very simple extrudable metal design - they will look a lot like some of the other high end custom keyboard projects. Unfortunately the ultra-compact cases could not resemble the originals due to the thousands in additional tooling costs required.

Ahh, makes sense. Thanks for the replies. This is probably the most impressive keyboard project I've seen, it must be very satisfying to see it come together. I will buy one if I can.

What's the order deadline btw? I might want to order some black cases too, in case it goes with the furniture or pet in the future.

Very interesting. I don't come by often or use this layout, but it is very exciting to see an ancient keyboard revived seemingly so effectively. It really lays the template for future keyboard adventures - hopefully ending in the split layout I desire so much.

Would also like to see some more positive concrete updates on the Paypal issue before submitting my purchase.
A lot of money to be tied for a long time.
I have sent an email to the specified Paypal address in support of your project Ellipse!
Hopefully it is of some help.

Even though I'm not ordering until late in the 2nd batch ~ choosing between the F62 and F77 is giving me hemorrhoids.

I was the same way. I figured that these will probably sell later for the same price we are buying them for, so I went with both and will just keep the one I like more. ;)

Ellipse

09 Feb 2016, 23:57

Yes they will be the same price for both batches. I also hope to produce some extra units in the first round to sell possibly at a premium for those who missed out of the first round but do not want to wait until August/September (when the regular round ships).
