Omron B3G-S series, a very strange mediocre switch wouldn't you agree Chyros.

They're nowhere near as well-designed as Alps switches, with several glaring flaws, including being incredibly unreliable and actuation and tactility being very poorly matched up. They're also ultra-clicky, way louder than anyone but a click nut like me could endure xD .

That said I think they're a fun and interesting switch, if not the best I've ever tried. I'm quite interested about the cyan Omnoms though .

I've tried them briefly in person. The sound is dazzling, the feel not so much, but still way more appealing to me than an MX board with similarly pretty dyesubs.

I wonder if you'd like Alps SKCM Amber then? I haven't used Omnom Ambers myself, but I have e thieving suspicion that they are quite similar.

I didn't care for them very much, but maybe I'll give them another chance someday.

Chyros mentions that older key caps on Acer boards and the Silitek-made old logo Dell AT101 has dyesubbed ABS.

Whether it's dyesubbed or some other method, I'm not sure, but it's not a traditional pad print, that's for sure.

I have seen some really flat and seamless pad printing before though, but this dyesubbed stuff blurs into the plastic like dyesubbed PBT.

Did you really like Ambers? I think I'm the minority that doesn't like them. I might have to reevaluate them at some point. SKCM Lime (the Alps formally known as SKCM Green ) are definitely my favorite tactile switch, that's for sure. They completely shifted my declining interest in tactile switches too, so who knows.

Might have to hunt down some Ambers again.

The SSK wouldn't look so bad if they didn't have a muddled dye job with a more brownish than black dye. Oh, and the number stripe. That's really ugly.

Doesn't it though? They are such exotic boards. Originally, when I scored the buy, I was so hyped on desoldering one for my Orion v2, but then I felt like I couldn't. TBH, I value vintages significantly higher up than I do modern boards in certain respects. I can't just tear apart a fascinating keyboard because it has rare switches. I don't even like desoldering blue Alps boards.

If I got a Docutech in bad shape then sure, but not these. I've never seen anyone put the SKCM Green in a custom yet aside from just one, the Dokiu Saver.

I know Jacobolus had two, one bamboo, and one in bad shape that had pine from elecplus. Nubbinator found one, and there was one that sold on eBay about two years back.

Just keep an eye out. Some publishers still use the Docutech 135 systems. One I talked to had one spare but wanted to keep it. These were super important parts of their systems (and still are for some), so I can imagine why they're so seldom seen. One of the Docutechs I have had a jumped wire repair. It's like they just maintained these at all costs.

Replacements probably were not cheap at all. Elecplus/Cindy might have one in their huge keyboard lot. I'd laugh though if not a single one is in that giant boatload.

I mean, you'd think with bulk that, there will be at least one of every board we know and lust over, but I guess it's possible that there might not be. We'll have to wait and see.

Oh right, and another liquidator I talked to had a ton of Docutech 135 spare parts, even a mouse, but no keyboards at all.

The Dokiu saver is something legendary, and an Orion v2 is my wet dream. I really want an orion to put my ambers into. Does anyone know if duck is making an orion v3 anytime soon?

And yeah, vintages are a part of history. It is very hard to desolder them. I keep all the cases, plates, and PCB's of the boards I desolder.

I was actually offered a Dokiusaver for double the asking price of Orion v2s recently (it's actually an OTD keyboard). To be honest, it does not look as appealing to me as the Orion v2 does. It's a flat case with domed feet, which is eeeh. Not even any cool logos like the Kingsaver, and well... Apparently Dokiusaver is not a pun on Docutech, it's a combination of two forum members' names from Korea who designed it, though it's really kind of funny that it sounds just like "Docu," because it seemed intentional.

I passed on the Dokiusaver.

The Orion v3 is probably going to come around sometime next year in 2017.

Yeah, I keep all of my vintage components after desoldering as well. While I like the SKCM Greens a lot, like to the point of it being my favorite tactile Alps, I don't think I'm going to put them in my Orion at all. Even though it's gonna be hotswap modded. I've had enough of opening switches after that restoration, haha.

To those who haven't heard of the DK before that, well... It's been immortalized, especially as it was one of the first sightings of Alps SKCM Green. Though to be honest, I wouldn't want a Donkey Kong Saver anyway.

Nothing against it though, but I do think it's not that much of a looker. If anything buying one would be out of its obscurity alone and nothing else, and that just doesn't drive me.

Yes, I've done some extensive research into this. These caps most often appear on old Acers but the Silitek '97SK has them too. The printing has no noticeable height difference, suggesting it's not pad printing, but SEM reveals it has altered surface topology, which would suggest it's not dyesub. However the material sinks into the material a considerable distance, more than dye sublimation. Considering it reaches into the material but doesn't show any noticeable height difference, laser printing seems impossible too. All we know is it's ABS and shows some characteristics of dye sublimation, which it looks like too. So I'm going with that in the meantime.
