That is why I refer to ebay as GREED_bay these days.Elrick wrote: ↑Ahhh Wobbled, welcome to Ebay where being 'fleeced' is now becoming the normal experience.wobbled wrote: ↑The price is fucking ridiculous, more pricks trying desperately to squeeze as much money out of people as they possibly can.
That is why I have to refer to them as "Flebay", the only CORRECT description to apply.

20%? I wonder which special features you have to book to be charged so much.chip chop wrote: ↑TBF its really the sellers who are ripped off, fees can often reach around 20% of the hammer price.
On the other hand, you pay when riding a bus or using your phone,
and seemingly free services like Facebook or Twitter use your data as a payment.
So paying for eBay is nothing I would rant about.
Of course eBay charges rather high fees, taking advantage of their monopole situation,
but the monopole situation also means sellers have much better chances of selling their stuff
than if there were several similar sites competing on a comparable level.

It was something around 20% when you took into account paypal fees and not starting a auction at 0.99. But, as I say it is the seller that gets ripped off not the buyer. We can all choose not to buy.

It's at least 13% no matter what.kbdfr wrote: ↑20%? I wonder which special features you have to book to be charged so much.chip chop wrote: ↑TBF its really the sellers who are ripped off, fees can often reach around 20% of the hammer price.

I had the number of 18% in the back of my mind, this was way back when, 13% sounds more like it thinking back. Haven't sold on ebay for a long time. Anyway, off topic.... srry.

Huh - that beamspring was made in Armonk too, not in Canada at the old Toronto plant...maybe the later ones were made in NY, or just certain models.

On the ebay note, eBay takes 10% straight away, including the cost of postage jacking postage prices up, PayPal charge at least 3%, possibly more if the payment is from a different currency, plus a business seller has to pay at a minimum £25 a month for a basic shop on eBay, giving only buy it now listings, and have to pay for each auction listing.
It's only natural that sellers will jack prices up to cover fees, often with a best offer for what they think would be acceptable.
TLDR: eBay treats sellers like dirt, which lead to sellers overcharging, and buyers thinking sellers are jerks.

Speaking of ebay... came across this.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Keyboard-Home ... 0167.m2940
Looks like a waffle base, DEC VT-100 / Hi Tek Homebrew 60% board, handwired. Weird layout maybe a morse board looking at what the sellers other lots are.
P.S. Anybody who likes Jimmy Carter is alright in my book, a great man.

Other than eBay's changes (to charges) over the years, and business seller specific extra fees, looks like you nailed it in onefohat wrote: ↑I stand behind my dissertation from years ago:Wanderer wrote: ↑

Same as a 60% (what I thought was a homebrew / handwired board) I posted a couple of days ago, thought it was a cutdown.gnmar2723 wrote: ↑This looks interesting (well, the caps at least...)

By the looks of it is's either a Stackpole or Hi-Tek Linear Switch. It would need wiring & a controler I guess.

I bought this one. I might post photos of the damage assessment, I'm sure its condition rivals that of the keyboards from the Rustmaster!JP! wrote: ↑This seller sold another for $125 today.

After my initial excitement wore off, I had to wonder.. With the difference in price and the emphasis on the "AS IS ~ AS FOUND FOR PARTS OR REPAIR ONLY", I suspect I'll be in for a big surprise (well, more than what is immediately obvious).
I'll probably look into getting the case and maybe the plate powder coated..
This one has since been discounted to $399.99.y11971alex wrote: ↑http://www.ebay.com/itm/282605980089
