Have to agree, even I managed to come across some nice items (NIB) that weren't in the stratosphere of pricing.Blaise170 wrote: ↑I've still found some good deals on eBay. Timing is a big part of it.
For me anything that's secondhand and clearly abused doesn't deserve extreme gape-like pricing on any level, even if it's the dreaded "Blue-Alps" travesty.
I would of gone $500+ on a perfect - New In Box number BUT never for something that used and abused, my Mrs would kill me on the spot when she sees it's condition.

The keycaps are slightly translucent, and it looks like the board from the ebay listing uses the same switches as the board in the geekhack thread.
Just a heads-up to anyone thinking of buying it.

Not bad quality keyboards but their idiot design is more for juveniles than adults, which I suspect was their original, target audience.

The layout isn't bad, but the rubber band switches (which are MEI switches, FYI) combined with the tiny keycaps makes it much less of a joy to type on.digital_matthew wrote: ↑ Shame about the switches. I rather like the way it looks.
Interesting I thought all the Datadesk kids' keyboards were Alps. Oops!nsmechkb wrote: ↑ I was looking for more info on this, and found: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=39350.0

Here's what I really wonder: if the boards had been listed at BIN for 810 and 564 respectively, would they have sold for that amount?

That's Flebay for you. If you list it at the current prices sold - you won't get any nibbles.//gainsborough wrote: ↑Here's what I really wonder: if the boards had been listed at BIN for 810 and 564 respectively, would they have sold for that amount?
Like fishing, you allow the smaller minnows the opportunity to take a small bite, that means lower it down to something feasible, then watch slowly as more and more tip it upwards.
It's the GREAT Whites that will consume it all at your higher price, simply due to the right circumstances and of course that all elusive reality known as LUCK .

This whole thread is just advertising ebay items to all the people in the world. We are making these inflated prices by employing people into the bidding war. Should we need to post only 'buy it now' items from now on? I feel guilty for having posted Model M SSK engineering sample a few months ago, which ended +800USD...Elrick wrote: ↑That's Flebay for you. Mechanical keyboards are mainstream now, as 002 mentioned in another thread, and so the rise in price is mostly due to the rise in demand. Of course that means that there are more keyboards available when people realize their value and start listing them for sale, but I seriously doubt that the supply is capable of keeping up with the demand.

Prices like that are usually the result of 2-3 individual buyers that sink a lot of money into the hobby.
looking at the German ebay for example, prices have overall been dropping over the past months.

I don't have any data to prove it, but at least from when I last bought boards in 2016 to now when I got back into the hobby, boards are overall more expensive than they were on eBay US.

YES I know it's quite nauseating giving Flebay so much free promotion but where else can the public of the WORLD gain access to any keyboard on this planet?arkanoid wrote: ↑This whole thread is just advertising ebay items to all the people in the world.
As soon as you create a place that allows anyone or everyone no matter where they live to buy or bid on these keyboards that we adore, it will soon become exactly like Flebay.
Totally CORRECT but what is the alternative? Don't forget for everyone that can't afford that item another person steps in to take it away, the very essence of bidding whether it's at an auction or showroom floor when you have interested parties.arkanoid wrote: ↑We are making these inflated prices by employing people into the bidding war.
You could but most even from here, might go for what's available on Flebay at any given time which shall not include any "Buy-It-Now" category.arkanoid wrote: ↑Should we need to post only 'buy it now' items from now on?
