one is with naked women and one is without. that's a huge differenceMuirium wrote: 23 Sep 2021, 19:30 Honest question: how is TikTok different from Vine? You know, besides one coming years earlier and dying a few years ago too; when it was killed by its corporate overlords…
Don't you feel like DT is dying?

Today I celebrate my 10th anniversary here.
Since I have a decent collection of keyboards including a small handful of favorites (and backups for them) my earlier fervor has diminished considerably. I hang around to stay in circulation and keep up with what people are saying, but the last time I was truly excited about a keyboard prospect was lot_lizard's aborted F modernization project.

Ah, lot_lizard. I reached out to him repeatedly to attempt to buy back all the inventory I sold him so that I could further the project. Radio silence - and this is after he accepted a LinkedIn connection request.

As I gather from what he said, he suffered a truly catastrophic loss in his family. He’s shell shocked. Having been through something similar myself, you get forced to reset just to heal yourself. It’s hard, hard stuff.XMIT wrote: 07 Oct 2021, 01:32 Ah, lot_lizard. I reached out to him repeatedly to attempt to buy back all the inventory I sold him so that I could further the project. Sure, I get it. It's just keyboards - just stuff - in the end, there are other more important things.Muirium wrote: 07 Oct 2021, 09:48 As I gather from what he said, he suffered a truly catastrophic loss in his family. XMIT Air stands ready to collect this inventory if it ever becomes available again.

I'm still passionate about old keyboards. I've been thinking about a new YouTube series to drive interest and traffic back to here. I'll start a thread about it soon.

Nice, but I think the lack of management (and system management, too) may be the worst problem, rather than low traffic. Low traffic might just be a consequence when users experience technical issues that seem to be never fixed (not even addressed in any way).

Traffic isn't an issue, a lot of people were driven to discord and are still active on there. I would imagine a lot would come back here if this place was actively managed by someone who cares, as long as it isn’t owned by someone who wants to buy it for their personal gains…
Im in the discord server but barely ever use it, i have too many discord servers already that i struggle to keep up with, i hope this place does pick up again as i always prefer a forum to a discord server but maybe thats just me

100% when webwit sold out the forum was basically guaranteed to die because he sold it to the highest bidder and not to people who would have actually cared about this shit. I'd love to use some sort of forum instead of discord but that requires both someone willing to operate that and people willing to use it while it's small and without new users a DT2.0 project is doomed to not get off the ground. All the succession projects have suffered from that, people interested in doing the work do the work, then everyone stays on discord or here and momentum dries up.
We'll see what happens as time goes on though. If this place just goes dark at some point instead of limping that might be the push people need to actually use an alternative platform

same, thats why I dont use discord except for gaming with friends. I have enough messages in my inboxes / discord servers already that I never will read. And finding stuff on discords is hell.wobbled wrote: 25 Nov 2024, 15:53 Im in the discord server but barely ever use it, i have too many discord servers already that i struggle to keep up with
No its not. Iam the same and I think many people might be too. Forums are just way better for what we are trying to do here.wobbled wrote: 25 Nov 2024, 15:53 i hope this place does pick up again as i always prefer a forum to a discord server but maybe thats just me
Not even touching on the point of discords owner

Using discord for showing your projects is terrible. I really hope DT doesn't go down completely or if it does, somebody creates another forum like it, because discord is an INSTANT MESSAGE service, not a forum. it cannot replace what a forum is, which is providing SEARCHABLE INFORMATION. However, i feel like most of the people have already moved to discord and it's just... not great. I myself stopped posting on DT because i wasn't sure if it's gonna even stay up or not...

I joined DT 9 yrs ago. I haven't been witness to the decline of DT as I had to step away to deal with health and other life issues. I have lost a mother and a son along the way and had 6 grand kids enter my world. I guess I was part of the decline by stepping back.
I am a little disheartened by the low participation at this point but in my absence there is a lot of material posted for me to catch up on. For me the passion is still there and I finally have some time to unpack and finish long dormant projects (and don't have to justify them by monetizing them). Establishing a small production shop is long off my radar and I can simply focus on the hobby / creative side for personal fulfillment. I will continue to share my progress here as long as the site is active. I honestly don't know where else I would go, no one in my social media circles would care one bit about keyboards.
I do miss the 'Golden Years' of DT. Perhaps there will be a renewal of activity at some time in the future, even if it never regains its 'club' vibe that once existed. Perhaps I'll be here to witness it.
