Will this be the end or a new beginning?

What can I say, I sort of had a love/hate relationship but part of me will definitely miss him.
However, ultimately I plan to:

input nirvana wrote:I'm not happy with that outcome. Bottom line: Newbies and such are the losers. Why?: 3 years ago when I found GH, it was because I wanted to cut a Kinesis Advantage into 2 halves. I found GH because someone posted that same question and it never got answered. I scoured everywhere...the information DID NOT EXIST IN ANY FORM. So I decided to make GH home, use the resources GH had to offer. I asked, begged, pleaded, spent tons of time forming 'relationships', and eventually compiled enough info about:
Plastics cutting/filing/brightening/welding, soldering/desoldering, key switches, key caps types/plastics/profiles, legend types/fonts, leds, usb/ps2, Ping!, controllers, matrix, hot chicks with keyboards, key dampening, purchasing sources for anything, ergonomic issues, misc. keyboard related items too numerous to mention, almost at the point of learning programming custom controllers (not the hard stuff, just the project stuff), I've bought and sold a few input devices to try and discover neat stuff, I'm currently shipping/forwarding keyboards to Europe for some peeps on Deskthority, I may have helped a couple peeps with RSI issues, and I've met a few really, really neat peeps that one day may even cross over into the FRIEND zone....the list goes on...
Yea, my contact with Ripster was on the minimal side, because he's not ergo. But how much of what I listed above was Ripster made/influenced/assisted? A LOT. When I sent him a PM, he answered it to the best of his ability. Say anything you want, but his ability is HIGH. I am one of the few people that never tossed in on the #1 Keyboard Expert on the Planet...because I thought it was funnier to NOT be a source.
In my opinion, the strength of GH is weakened, but at least a few peeps on the forum won't get into spats or feelings hurt. I never got involved with a Ripster-related spat, so I know it can be done easily. Took no effort on my part, and I've had some presence on the forum for a while. Takes two to tango. The only issues I ever had were with 2-3 buttholes that tried using me as a punching bag. We all saw how nasty I got, so let's not go there again.
Input Nirvana OUT!

He made a comment on my very first post that made me laugh and didn't scare me away. He also wrote useful and/or entertaining articles.
I'll miss my broski. No homo all bromo.

I've been here for less than a year, but GH is definately gonna be different without ripster... in a bad way. I've come to learn about and love keyboards because of all the articles that he has put up. Not only that, but he also had random comments/articles that were off-topic but entertaining/educational.

didjamatic wrote:What have you personally contributed here? How many people have you helped? The Johnny come lately band wagon hopping mob nonsense make you look and sound like a tool.
Ripster did tick some people off but helped more than he hindered. Threatening to reveal someone's mailing address should be an infraction and if you did so, should be a permaban, if it's not in the forum rules it should be. That's far worse than any of the other so-called infractions that are being enforced with an unlubed iron fist around here.
inlikeflynn wrote:well this sucks. I tend to try and stay out of the ongoing GH controversy, but this is too F'ing stupid.
What sort of positive outcome is there for GH by banning/losing yet another senior member with the wealth of knowledge he has?
The only reason seems to be to keep the young newbie members happy and make things all nice and safe like school these days. Meaning no jokes, no teasing, no off-topic, no fun, & we cannot just have a single #1 keyboard expert on the planet...we all must be keyboard experts in our own and unique way as we must be fair to all
WTF :mad2:
I've been here since late 2010, which is longer than the vast majority of people posting these days. So I''ve seen the various incarnations of Ripster and sadly Ripster of 2010 was his best days before the complainers started to move in. Heck even most of Ripster and KL's fighting back in the day was good for a laugh even. So if they are putting their differences behind them to stand up to the new rules that should be quite the sign of a problem with the site's direction?
So what really is the problem with the pre-banned may2012 Ripster?
-He went back to being helpful and posting proper direct links and not just "its in my sig" messages on every post
-He no longer tells jokes outside his sub-forum
-He doesn't go off-topic too much outside his sub-forum
-He does challenge the mod's and new rules put in place. But is that really a bad thing when we don't have well defined rules and consistent moderation taking place? Seemingly the only reason for any of these changes is to please the young newbies who need everything all nice and safe. I'd rather have Ripster here than real trolls like tp4tissue, or whatever the heck his name is. All that guy did was troll and cause problems on purpose and contributed nothing to GH
When the top 3 US/Europe keyboard experts (ripster/webwit/sixty) have now all left GH either by choice or by force shouldn't that be a sign a problem with the direction GH is taking?
thankfully this post is in KL's subforum so it might exist for longer then 15 seconds.....I'm sure i'll be put in time out now to though

I doubt this is the end of Ripster on GH.
I think UCB said it best, everybody needs to cool out.
Granted he posted a lot, but I know everyone in this thread at one point or another got a chuckle off of his posts.
didjamatic wrote:"DT is where all the spammers go."? Are you serious?
Actually the trend is this: DT is where the people go who have done the most mods, have the largest keyboard collections and the most knowledge to offer others seeking it. Yes, it comes with chatter because you only talk strictly about switches caps and layouts so much before you want to inject some variety and fun into discussions. If all you want is reference material go read white papers.
