Re: Using a Model M spacebar on Model F AT/122
The easiest way is to slip 2 washers over the "V" and ",<" barrels. Wcass discovered that 7/16" SAE washers work quite well. Their weight is just right, and although they may interfere with the bottom millimeter of key travel, it is hardly noticeable. I don't know what the metric equivalent would b...

Re: Removing "deep grime" from beamspring keycaps
Have you tried putting the caps in water with very much dish-soap and then letting them soak for several days? Also this, this has worked for me on several occasions. Got rid of virtually all the shmutz on my beamspring case that way. I've found blue Dawn dish soap works best for this (or any kind ...

That's a hassle too, but I found that leaving the barrel place absolutely still almost eliminates that problem. Having it supported on both sides, raised off the table. If you bought a plate from unicomp I think they come with the rivet "spikes" as they would be on the factory line. So, if you had the right tool, you could clamp barrel plate/membranes/pad/backplate sandwich assembly together and do the rivet mushroom melt yourself. No screws at all. I *think* there...

If the crack is that bad it's possible the rest of the plate is just as fragile. You might try plastic welding or similar, or just doing a mod with the plate as is - with everything buttoned up it might be fine.
Beyond that a new plate from Unicomp is the best option.

I used a wire hanger for a stabilizer wire. There's several gauges of them, but a thin one worked fine. Still have it on one of my boards and I don't even remember which, can't tell from feel.

To say he did "inexcusably careless, risky shit" is truly the height of assholery. Sorry, I'm not backing down on that. Re: Anyone know the exact IBM Industrial color?
It looks good but it seems that these color matches always need just a *little* more olive/green, they're too gray.
I doubt you'd notice it in person unless, like here, it's up against an original.
I wonder if many who have industrials got them color matched what we'd all get for the values.

Re: Hall effect model M?
If you wanted an M with higher KRO you'd have better luck with expanding the matrix, which is exactly what Unicomp has done with their latest offerings (the mini, and I believe their new M classic has it too). Or diodes.
It's been discussed before.

The custom keyboard enthusiast in me is thinking, lube the inner barrels of the barrel plate, lube where the flippers make contact with the barrel plate, lube the springs and grease the stabilisers. Don't do this. You'll just attract dirt everywhere, you don't need it, and it will only make the key...

I might have had it mounted outside of the stabilizer tab on that side for the photo or had to bend the wire a bit more after. Those were the first pics after the build. As much as I'd love to have an F keyboard in the TKL layout, this kind of work is definitely beyond my skills. So I'll just look at this post and dream... Take an AT F, do the alt key mod and rearrange the numpad into a SSK navigation keyset, you'll get very close to an SSK on a true F chassis.

Re: Can you use a Model M flipper in a Model F?
If you simply want the key to look correct, you could use an M assembly and put it on a key you'll never use ( like SysReq or an Fx key). For giggles I had once tried extending an M flipper with aluminum tape, and I think I got some response, but nothing I'd want to type on. You may also consider do...
